Description | PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The job of a head football coach is to develop and implement an exemplary football program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each student athlete aligned to the district mission and vision. The job of Teacher is done for the purpose/s of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students' providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
*Eligible for valid Georgia Professional Certification in a teaching field.
*Head Coaching or Coordinating experience at the varisty level preferred.
*Experience playing football in a high school or college program.
*Knowledge of GHSA and NCAA rules, guidelines, and procedures.
*Strong communication skills and advanced knowledge of football fundamentals and strategies
*CPR certification or willing to obtain.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and enforce district academic standards and policies; emphasizing academics as a priority for all student athletes.
- To demonstrate proper sportsmanship and respect for players, officials, opponents, opposing coaches, parents and fans.
- To maintain good public relations with media, Booster Club, parents, officials, players, fan, etc.
- To serve as a positive role model for students, coaching staff, and the community.
- Responsible for the development of leadership and character becoming of a student athlete.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for high school athletes.
- Ability to positively motivate student athletes of varying abilities and backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork.
- Responsible for supervising players at all practices, games, in the locker room, on the bus, or any time they are representing the football program.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ensure program compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ensure program compliance with district policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ensure program compliance with GHSA policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate collegiality in working with other programs, coaches and student athletes.
- Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director to staff all football coaching vacancies with qualified and motivated individuals.
- Ability to supervise, organize and motivate a coaching staff at all levels.
- Responsible for performance evaluation of coaching staff.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining an offseason program.
- Willing to work in the summer, on weekends, and at other allowable times in order to maintain a high quality program, including but not limited to offering off season conditioning, skill training, etc.
- Attend clinics, workshops and other pertinent training programs, as requested by the Athletic Director, to stay current in football strategies and philosophies.
- To accept responsibilities outside the football team as they relate to the school and community.
- Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director in developing game schedules, practice schedules, facility usage requests, transportation needs, and the program budget.
- Follow district procedure to requisition supplies, materials, and equipment as needed.
- Provide game results to the media; keep game and season statistics and records; provide statistical reports to the Athletic Director as needed and/or as requested.
- Provide statistical information, video, etc. to college recruiters upon request.
- Submit upon request varsity letters and present at awards banquet.
- Assume responsibility for inventory, selection and care of equipment.
- Assume responsibility for proper care of the school facilities.
- Report injuries to the athletic trainer and administration in a timely manner as per district procedure.
- Other duties as assigned.
Build and sustain a successful program that is widely supported and respected by the Gordon County School District and community at large.
- Salary based upon certificate level, years of experience and local athletic supplements.
- 12 month position.
